Why Financial Literacy is Important

Our children are growing up in a modern digital world. While this has its pros and cons that we are still studying, one thing is clear: the way they interact with money is vastly different from previous generations.

Today, children often see their parents using credit cards or tapping their phones to complete financial transactions instead of dealing with real money and banknotes. This shift means it's more crucial than ever to teach children the fundamentals of financial literacy.

By the end of this camp children will be able to:

Understand the basic concepts of financial literacy

This includes understanding concepts like saving, budgeting, and the value of money. When children learn these basics early on, they are more likely to make informed financial decisions as they grow older.

Build Good Habits

Through hands on projects that will be assigned through the camp, the children will figure out themselves the common mishandling of money like overspending, accumulating debt, or failing to save for the future. Good financial habits established early can lead to lifelong financial stability.

Develop financial responsibility and independence

When they understand how money works, children will be encouraged to set financial goal at the end of each level of this camp. They will be encouraged to work towards achieving their goals. This fosters a sense of empowerment and confidence that will serve them well throughout their lives.

Structure of the Classes

Intermediate Level

Real-Life Application Project: Students will choose a bank to open a saving account based on comparing between different banks and what they offer. Note: They do not have to open a real account, but at least they need to research what 3 local banks in their area offer to open a minor account and justify why they would choose one bank over another.

Advanced Level

We will cover foreign money exchange compared to the U.S dollar and an overview of world economy. Students will learn about investment, marketing, and starting a business.

Real-Life Application Project: Students will choose a business idea for a startup. They will make products from materials available to them and try to sell their products.

Note: Based on the level and progress of each child, the Montessori guide will advise which level the student can start with and whether they can continue the classes and move to the next level or pause the classes and continue them after few months or a year once they are ready and have mastered the level that they were practicing. Some children will be able to cover and master all levels even if they are 7 years old. It depends on each child and their progress. Students will be grouped according to their level.
